Why I Made a Website about Natural Child Birth
Hi, my name is Joy. Let me tell you about how my love affair with natural child birth began. It started with the natural birth of my younger brother, Joshua. I was eight years old at the time. My brother was born at home surrounded by family. I was fascinated and enthralled with the whole process. I helped my mother through labor by massaging her back and putting cold wash cloths on her forehead. It was amazing to see my baby brother’s head come out of my mother. I witnessed that birth could be a calm, natural, family event, not intruded upon by outsiders, or unnecessary medical intervention. Fast forward twenty-one years....I am again overwhelmed with awe as my own body powerfully pushes forth a beautiful baby girl at home in my living room.I fall head over heels in love... I don't want to leave her to go back to work--even part time. But when Sabine is eight weeks old I return to my work part-time feeling that I have no other option. I always knew that I wanted to be available to my children and not work away from them, but I didn't know how strong my attachment to my baby would be and how my heart and my breasts would ache when I was away from her. 
I also always knew that I had interests and passions outside of mothering that I want to pursue. In addition, I wanted to be able to bring in income so as not to be dependent upon anyone else.So, I researched tirelessly during my maternity leave to find something I could do that would fit the bill. Here's what I wanted: *work that I could do and not be separated from my baby *to be my own boss *work that was flexible *work that I could do anywhere *work that I was passionate about *work that had the possibility to bring in a significant amount of income to allow my family to live more comfortably and *to allow me to pursue my dreams(dancing and world travel--neither of which pay very well!) I discovered Site Build It! and found a way that I could build a web business from home based on my passion of natural child birth.
Why Natural Child Birth?I created this website about natural child birth, because I believe that the current practices and treatments surrounding birth do not truly serve women, children, and the greater society. I have seen how changing some of these practices can have a greatly positive effect on the lives of women, children, and families.I have seen how birth can be a normal, natural part of life and not managed as a medical emergency, but celebrated as an emergence of new life. For the last six years, I have studied birth in general, and natural, physiological birth in particular. I have counseled mothers throughout the childbearing year, providing them and their families with education, options, and resources. I have attended several births, helping women throughout the process of labor and birth. I want to EMPOWER women physically, emotionally, and spiritually to have a gentle and ecstatic childbirth. I want to inspire and enable women to follow their own instincts and intuition in pregnancy, labor, and birth and to help them trust in their own unique process.
